A Market Morning
in Santanyí

An October Saturday filled with stone streets, market tables and the vivid abundance of Mallorca.

The first visit

Mallorca was beautiful in the effortless way Spain often is—sun-warmed days, fresh seafood and local salt that made even the simplest meal memorable. It was my first visit, and before the trip was over, I already knew I would gladly return.

We stayed in Cala d’Or in early October, when the weather was nearly perfect. It is about an hour from Palma and only twenty minutes from Santanyí, close enough to make the Saturday market an easy morning trip.

The unexpected stop

I had found so few photos of the market beforehand that I wasn’t sure it would be worth the detour. It turned out to be a hidden gem—lively yet intimate, with small shops, local arts and crafts, and a little taste of everything Mallorca had to offer.

What came home

I find so much joy in unexpected places—the unplanned discoveries that stay in my heart long after a trip ends. I came home with tiny hand-painted olive bowls and local salt, small reminders of a morning I hadn’t known to look forward to.
