A little color
along the way.

Directions from Bear Mountain Bridge ↗We drove through Harriman State Park and crossed Bear Mountain Bridge on the way to Cold Spring, making the fall scenery part of the day before we reached Main Street.
A little fresh air
Cold Spring, New York, is the kind of place I want to spend a fall day: a charming Main Street, antique shops to wander into, and beautiful fall foliage along the Hudson River.
This year, the color was especially lovely. Gold, orange, and deep red against a clear blue sky. I was happy to be outside, walking around and taking it all in.

Antique Shops Along Main Street
The antique shops are part of the pleasure here. I like having somewhere to browse between walks, with coffee along the way and no need to rush through the afternoon.

Lunch at Le Bouchon
This time, I tried Le Bouchon and sat in the backyard. The atmosphere was relaxed and friendly, and it felt good to have lunch outside. I ordered the duck confit mostly because I was hungry, without expecting too much. The setting was what drew me in.

Fall Foliage by the Hudson River
At the waterfront, I wished the Seastreak boat had been docked somewhere else. From where I stood, it blocked so much of the view I had come to enjoy. With the foliage at its most beautiful, that felt like a shame. I wish more room had been left for the scenery that makes this place so special.

What I took home
Even with that disappointment, it was a good day. Fresh air, great coffee, a backyard table, and a town full of autumn color. I was glad I went.

Notes for a Fall Visit
From this visit: leave time to browse the antique shops along Main Street, pause for coffee, and walk down to the Hudson River for the foliage. I enjoyed the relaxed backyard atmosphere at Le Bouchon. At the waterfront, a docked boat obscured much of the view from where I stood.
